Formula 2 Sprint race sees Joshua Dürksen claim victory

The Formula 2 Sprint race saw Joshua Dürksen claim victory after a fast-moving race at Albert Park, Australia. The Invicta driver delivered an almost flawless performance to take the win ahead of Noel León and Alex Dunne. The Sprint race featured lots of action, with several drivers going slightly off track and a safety car.

With the top 10 reversed, starting from second, Dürksen took the lead early in the race, which guaranteed him the win. The results mark an important moment in the Formula 2 season as drivers fight for scoring the first points of 2026.

How the Formula 2 Sprint race started

At lights out, the grid launched cleanly as the pack approached Turn 1. Inthraphuvasak initially held the lead as several battles unfolded behind in the opening corners. Dürksen quickly gained positions, making his way to the lead to put pressure on Inthraphuvasak at the end of the first lap.

The opening phase of the race saw multiple overtakes as drivers attempted to make the most of fresh tyres and early momentum. Further back in the pack, the midfield group produced some of the closest racing of the afternoon. Drivers ran side-by-side through several corners as they fought for the crucial points-paying positions.

However, Mari Boya’s early crash on Lap 15 triggered a red flag. Several drivers sought the opportunity to enter the pit lane and get fresher tyres as the pack bunched up.

Formula 2 Sprint race crucial restart

With 5 laps remaining, the Safety Car was called in, and the race was restarted. Dürksen managed a clean restart and kept the lead, building a comfortable gap between his Invicta and the Inthraphuvasak. Behind them, the battle for the final podium position became one of the most dramatic moments of the race.

Despite crossing the line in second, Inthraphuvasak had a 5-second penalty for taking an advantage and going off track, which saw him descending to fourth position. León and Dunne capitalized on the event and completed the podium.

Gabriele Mini, who started at the back of the grid, climbed the ranks and found himself crossing the final line in sixth position after a disappointing qualifying session.

Championship implications

These Formula 2 Sprint race results could play an important role in shaping the championship battle as the season progresses.

With the Sprint race offering fewer points than the Feature race, every result remains valuable for drivers aiming to stay within reach of the championship lead. Dürksen’s victory adds important momentum to their campaign and reduces the gap to the drivers ahead in the standings.

Meanwhile, solid points finishes from Noel León and Alex Dunne ensure they remain firmly in contention as the championship fight continues to develop.

Attention will now turn to the Feature Race at Albert Park, where more points will be available, and teams will need to carefully manage strategy and tyre performance over the longer distance.
