After the summer break, the Formula 2 Championship is back. Round 10 took place in Monza, the Temple of Speed. After an entertaining Sprint race, Joshua Dürksen claimed the victory, ahead of John Bennett. Oliver Goethe completed the podium at Monza.
A clean start to the Sprint
John Bennett, starting from pole, had a strong launch and defended from Oliver Goethe, keeping the lead into Turn 1. Behind him, Goethe lost a position to Tasanopol Inthraphuvasak, who moved up to second. Further back, Nikola Tsolov started from eighth, was putting Ritomo Miyata under pressure for sixth.
Goethe went side by side with Inthraphuvasak, but the MP Motorsport driver couldn’t complete the move and lost another position to Joshya Dürksen. Dürksen tried to make a move on Inthraphuvasak, but the ART Grand Prix driver defended his position.
Behind, Noel Léon overtook Tsolov for sixth with a clean move. Rafael Câmara, who started in tenth, spun on lap 5. Câmara was unable to keep the car running, which triggered a safety car. Meanwhile, Tsolov had a bit of a moment with Alexander Dunne and Miyata, which dropped the Bulgarian back to eighth.
At the restart, Dürksen held onto second position after a safe restart. Meanwhile, Tsolov retook P7 after overtaking Miyata. The Invicta Racing then began to close in on the race leader and, on lap 9, made his move successfully.
Halfway through the action
As the Sprint race reached its middle point, action was happening at the front and behind the leading pack. Dürksen managed to build a gap, followed only by Bennett. Behind the lead group, the championship leader, Tsolov, found himself in the middle of the pack.
After a mistake, Inthraphuvasak dropped to eighth. Martinius Stenshorne was now in third, ahead of Goethe, both Campos Racing, and Dunne. On lap 16, Goethe took third place once again. However, Roman Bilinski went into the barriers, and that triggered another safety car.
Joshua Dürksen had a strong restart, driving away as Bennett struggled a bit more. Behind them, Tsolov and Stenshorne battled from fifth until the Bulgarian secured the position. The Bulgarian defended the position until the end.
